Obituary: Plattsburgh Press Republican (NY), Wednesday, 28 February 1990: Merrill: John A. Peets 74, of the Blanch Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1990, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born May 10, 1917 in Merrill, the son of John and Delia (St. Germine) Peets. Mr. Peets owned and operated a dairy farm on the Blanch Road for many years. He was a member of the Lyon Mountain Rod and Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Gladys Cheyme, whom he married Nov. 13, 1936 at Chateaugay Lake; a son, Wilroy "Billy" Peets of Merrill; a daughter, Mrs. Royce (Barbara) Rodriguez of Merrill; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Bozedlowski and Mrs. Floyd (Irene) Bracey, both of Lyon Mountain; six grand-children; two great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. Several relatives died earlier: three sisters, Marie Hamelin, Dorothy Peets and Maude Gadway; and four brothers, Walter, Edward, Ralph and Willard Peets. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain with the Rev. Leo A. Wiley celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be at a later date in the Brainardsville Cemetery.

Cheyne Peets, 87, of Merrill died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at her home under
the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country. Born in
Bellmont on November 13, 1919, she was the daughter of Wilroy and Alta (Taubenheimer)
Cheyne. She was married to John Peets on November 13, 1938, at
the family home at Chateaugay Lake. He predeceased her on Feb. 27, 1990.
Mrs. Peets is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wilroy "Billy" and Donna
Peets of Merrill; a daughter, Barbara Rodriguez of Merrill; a brother
and sister-in-law, Robert and Nellie Cheyne of Brainardsville; 15
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a special child for whom Gladys cared,
Jean-Luke Fortin; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband,
she was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Marie Cheyne and Jennie
Lepper; five brothers, Clayton, George, Ellsworth, Jacob and Gerald
Cheyne. Mrs. Peets graduated from Chateaugay High School with the
class of 1937. She was employed in the cafeteria of Northern Adirondack
Central School in Ellenburg for 26 years, retiring in 1989 as manager. For
27 years during the summer, she was manager of food service at Camp Jean D'Arc
on Chateaugay Lake. She was a member of the Lyon Mountain Memorial United
Methodist Church and the Lyon Mountain United Methodist Women. Calling
hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home today, Dec. 18, from 10 a.m.
to noon. A funeral service will follow at noon in the Funeral Home chapel
with the Rev. Ken Davis officiating. Burial will take place in
Brainardsville Cemetery, Brainardsville. Donations in her memory may be
made to the Lyon Mountain United Methodist Church, Lyon Mountain Rescue or
Hospice of the North Country, Plattsburgh.
