Jony L. Jean Yvon Claude Pitre dit Lajambe:  The Gazette (Montreal, QUE), Thursday, 6 November 1975:  A 42-year-old parolee was gunned down by MUC Police early yesterday following a $20,000 extortion attempt.  Claude Pitre was paroled two months ago after serving 14 years of a 25-year prison term for armed robbery.  He was killed at 6527 20th Ave. in Rosemount, shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday when two Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives burst into his apartment.  Four men kidnapped a nine-year-old son of a Montreal businessman and held him for $100,000 ransom.  "We had been warned by Det. Lt. Carlo Rossi just minutes before that Pitre was considered dangerous and that he would never surrender," said Det. Sgt. Gartan Fournel.  Fournel and his partner, Det. Sgt. Andre Savard, kicked in the door of Pitre's apartment.  "We gave the door four good shoves before it opened.  By then Pitre knew we were coming in and he was waiting for us with his shotgun.  There was no time to think.  Pitre was within five feet of my partner and I had to shoot to save his life as well as my own," Fournel said.  Three other men, one of them also a parolee working with Pitre in an East-End garage, were arrested by CIB detectives at 1:15 a.m. yesterday in Montreal North.  The trio had just released nine-year-old Alain Ayoub, son of a lingerie manufacturing plant owner, who was kidnapped from his New Bordeaux home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  Police said the four men broke into Ayoub's house to rob it, but when they found no money they decided to hold the youngest son for a $100,000 ransom.  Eight persons in the house at the time, three of them friends of the family, were tied and gagged.  Before leaving with their hostage, one of the extortionists untied the father and told him to wait for telephone instructions as to where the money should be dropped.  Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. the boy was locked in the trunk of his father's car stolen by the extortionists.  The boy was later transferred to the back seat of another car until he was released shortly after 1 a.m.  During his captivity his abductors made four telephone calls to his father lowering their original ransom demand to $20,000.  At 1:15 a.m., the boy was dropped off in front of the telephone booth.  He was tied and gagged but unharmed.  Police tailed the car from which Alain was released and the three suspects were arrested.  Last night a parole board spokesman said Pitre was released after careful consideration.
