St. Lawrence Weekly, Thursday, 1 April 1897:  Brasher Falls - Ed. Lashomb struck town yesterday and the boys were in for a big time.  Ed. enjoyed it as well as the boys, but Constable Rogers hauled him in at three o'clock this morning and he is now a prisoner.  Whoever furnishes him with liquor is worse than Ed. and that is saying a great deal.  The liquor dealers, of course, do not sell to him, but some smart Aleck buys it for him and they should be found out and sentenced in place of Lashomb.

Massena Observer, Thursday 24 March 1898:  Edward LaShomb was arrested Monday by Policeman King and Tuesday morning pleaded guilty to public intoxication before Justice Dominy who taxed him $8 for the benefit of the public treasury.

Massena Observer, Thursday, 7 July 1898:  Incidents of the Fourth:  An old man named Lashamb, from near the Springs, staid in the cooler over night, and Tuesday morning Justice Dominy asked him to contribute $3 towards swelling the village fund, which he promised to do.

Massena Observer, Thursday, 29 September 1898: A Brasher Man Robbed - An acquaintance formed in Canton jail turns out badly - Edward Lachamp, of Brasher Center, Robbed of $50 in Ogdensburg, and badly used up -- About a month ago Edward LaChamp, or Lashomb, commonly called, of Brasher Centre, was arrested in Massena for disorderly conduct, and sentenced to 30 days in Canton jail. While there he formed the acquaintance of a female prisoner, Mrs. Susan Depotsey. Her sentence expired first, and on leaving jail she invited LaChamp to come up to the city when his sentence expired and she would show him the sights. His sentence expired last week Tuesday and he forthwith proceeded to the "only city” carrying $54 in a leather wallet. Susan met him and together they made a round of the saloons and soon were both gloriously drunk. Then Susan threw LaChamp over for another fellow.  Later LaChamp was ordered off the street by the police, when a man named William Smith said he would take charge of LaChamp until he was sober, and they went off together.  LaChamp turned up in the morning presenting a pitiable appearance.  His face and hands were covered with blood and his clothing was saturated.  Both eyes were blackened and swollen almost shut, and there was a cut on the side of his face.  He was taken to police headquarters and lodged a complaint, and soon Smith and "Bill" Gagnon were under arrest.  Gagnon was seen arguing with LaChamp about midnight, and when arrested he had several dollars in his possession.  LaChamp positively identified Smith as his assailant, and both prisoners were held to await the action of the grand jury this week.  LaChamp is 59 years old and has a wife and four children at Brasher Centre.  He has been a source of considerable annoyance to the Massena police and the last time was given 30 days at Canton.  He was sent to Canton to be detained as a witness.
