Obituary: Merced Sun Star (Merced, CA), Wednesday, 4 March 1998: Former Merced educator David L. Peat died Feb. 18 in a Crescent City hospital. He was 70. He was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Auburn and was an educator at Merced High School for 36 years. For the first six years he served as vice principal, dean of boys, and student adviser. For the remaining 30 years he taught science/chemistry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and had been active as a Brookings, Ore. visitor's center volunteer, and as a Knights of Columbus volunteer. His survivors include his wife, Lis Peat of Brookings, Ore.; a daughter, Kathleen O'Shea of Phoenix, Arz.; a sister, Alma Helmholvz of Fresno; and four grandchildren. Services were Saturday. Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
