Obituary:  The Bangor Daily News (Bangor, ME), Friday, 17 May 1985:  Alphonse L. Peters.  Presque Isle - Alphonse L. Peters, 75, died May 15, 1985, at a local hospital.  He was born Dec. 20, 1909, of Bathhurst, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Boudreau) Peters.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the EAME Theatre Ribbon with four bronze stars and the Victory medal.  He was a member of Post No. 136 American Legion in Stockholm and had been employed by U.P.S. as a maintenance mechanic.  He is survived by his wife, Edwina (Viel) Peters of Presque Isle; one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Nancy) Merchant of Caribou; one brother, Eddie Peters of Stockholm; two sisters, Evelyn Long of Bridgeport, Conn. and Laura Pelletier of Caribou; three stepsisters, Ida St. Peter of Caribou, Rose Martin of Houlton and Estella Beaulieu of Greenville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.  Friends may call at Groves Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Friday.  Prayers will be said at the funeral home 8:15 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Claude Albert, celebrant.  Interment will be in North Main Street Catholic Cemetery.  Friends who wish may contribute in his memory to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division, Brunswick, Maine.

Obituary:  Bangor Daily News (Bangor, ME), Monday, 19 July 2004:  (photo) Presque Isle - Edwina Julia Peters, 89, died Saturday morning, July 17, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou.  She was born June 15, 1915, at Fort Kent, the daughter of Isidore and Delina (Theriault) Viel.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Edwina was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Presque Isle, and was adopted by the Caribou VFW while she was a resident of the Maine Veterans Home.  She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Merchant and her husband, Leon of Caribou;  two brothers, Edmund and Milton Viel of Van Buren; three sisters, Pearl Rowland and Bella Michaud, both of Van Buren, and Doris Karcher of Waterbury, Conn.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonese in 1985.  Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. David Raymond officiating.  Interment will be in North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle.  Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society Maine Division, Brunswick, ME or to the charity of one's choice.

Nancy Marie Merchant:  Bangor Daily News (Bangor, ME), Tuesday, 1 March 2011:  (photo) Caribou - Nancy Marie Merchant, 65, died Feb. 26, 2011, with her family by her side after a brief illness.  She was born Feb. 21, 1946, in Stockholm, the daughter of Alphonse and Edwina Peters.  Nancy was raised in Presque Isle.  In 1962 she married Leon Merchant and moved to Caribou, where together they raised five children and have made their home for 48 years.  Nancy cherished the time spent with her family, whether at home, at nana and dada's camp or up on the woods on their property.  Nancy was employed at Save-a-Lot since the opening of the store in Caribou.  She leaves behind her husband, Leon; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and John Lyons, and grandson, Richard; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Kent Cousins, granddaughters, Heather and Logan, and great-granddaughters, Keegan and Brooklyn; daughter, Lisa, granddaughter, Kilee, and great-granddaughter, Zoe; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Mitchell Green, grandsons, Joshua and Dustin, granddaughter, Emma, and great-grandson, Issac; and son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Kim Merchant, and grandsons, Brock and Blake.  Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise officiating.
