Obituary: The Lewiston Daily Sun (Lewiston, ME), Monday, 20 December 1954: Rumford - Arthur J. Peters, 54, a kitchen employee of the DeWitt Hotel, Lewiston, was found dead in his bed in his room at the hotel Saturday, and County Medical Examiner Paul R. Chevalier listed cause of death as heart disease. The deceased had been working at the hotel about two months. Fellow workers were unable to arouse him Saturday morning and summoned police who took him to a hospital where Dr. Chevalier pronounced him dead due to heart disease. Mr. Peters was born June 3, 1900, at Alberton, P.E.I., son of James and Medeleine Chaisson Peters. A former construction worker, he resided here at 607 Pine St. A member of St. Athanasius Church, Napoleon Ouellette Post, AL; and Robert Shand Post, VFW, he served in World War I with the 101st Engineer Guard. Mr. Peters is survived by his widow, the former Emma Schwengabier; two sons, James L., Rumford, and S/Sgt. Albert, Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Lamb, Enid, Okla., and Miss Barbara, Rumford; a half-brother, Stanley Godin, Waterville, and three grandchildren.

Peters, 54, died Wednesday at Rumford Community Hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 28. He had resided at 607 Pine St. and had lived here all his life. He was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Rumford, the son of Arthur and Emma Schweinsbier Peters. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church, member of Napoleon Ouellette Post, AL, Robert Shand Post, VFW, Boise Cascade Paper Co. 25-Year Club, the Disabled American Veterans, Father Ambrose J. Barry Council, K. of C. Mr. Peters was a veteran of the Air Force, serving in World War II, and graduated from Stephens High School, class of 1942. He had been employed in the Meter Dept. of Boise Cascade for more than 30 years. He was married in Worcester, Mass., on Feb. 23, 1946, to Rita M. Richard who survives of Rumford. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emma Peters, Rumford; three daughters, Mrs. Judith Durpo, Northfield, N.H., Mrs. Donna Morse, Andover, and Mrs. Elizabeth Fenner, Augusta; a son, Michael J. of Norwich, Vt.; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Clark, Rumford, and Mrs. Eleanor Harrington, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Albert of Windham, N.H.; and three grandsons.

Arthur T. Peters: Evening Express (Portland, ME), Thursday, 31 August 1944: Rumford, Aug. 31 - Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Peters of Pine Street, Rumford, received word Wednesday that their son, Second Lt. Arthur Peters Jr. overseas about two weeks as navigator on a heavy bomber, has been missing in action over Yugoslavia since Aug. 17. He was an honor graduate of Stephens High School in 1943 and was prominent in football and track. He entered the service shortly after his graduation and trained in Ohio and Texas.
- Evening Express (Portland, ME), Saturday, 25 August 1945: Rumford, Aug. 25 - Second Lt. Arthur T. Peters, Jr., reported missing in action over Romania, Aug. 17, 1944, is now presumed dead as of Aug. 18, his parents have been notified by the War Department. A graduate of Stephens High School in 1943, he entered the service in July of that year and went overseas in July, 1944, being navigator on a B-24 Liberator bomber based in Italy. Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Eleanor and Barbara; and two brothers, Cpl. James Peters, with the Air Force in the Philippines, and Albert Peters, able seaman, in the Merchant Marine.

Peters, 74, of Crescent Avenue, Revere, Mass., formerly of Rumford, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at Whidden Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Irene A. (Shields) Peters. Born and raised in Rumford, the son of the late Arthur and Emma Schwengsbier Peters, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and also served in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Peters was a self-employed painter for many years, prior to his retirement. Survivors include his wife; one stepdaughter, Diane Baron and her husband Salvatore Dimino of Revere, Mass.; one stepson, James Baron of Winthrop; one granddaughter, Julianna Dimino; one sister, Barbara Clarke and her husband, Lynden of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Eleanor Peters Harrington; and three brothers, James, Arthur and Ralph.
Eleanor Frances Peters: Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Wednesday, 19 January 2000: Las Vegas, Nev. - Eleanor Peters Harrington, 67, died at her home, Sunday, Jan. 16. She was born Feb. 3, 1932, the daughter of Arthur James and Emma Margaret (Schwengsbier) Peters of Rumford. She graduated from Stephens High School in 1950 and St. Joseph's College. She taught in high schools of Maine, and Las Vegas until retiring in 1997 after 30 years of teaching. She is survived by her loving husband, John of Las Vegas; two sons, Stephen of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas of Michigan; her two daughters, Vicky of Idaho and Ann of Las Vegas; her sister, Barbara Clarke of Rumford; and her brother, Albert of Everett, Mass.; also her loving eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, James and Arthur Peters of Rumford.
Barbara A. Peters: Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME), Wednesday, 19 February 2020: Rumford - (photo) Barbara A. Clarke, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at the Sandy River Nursing Home in Farmington. She was a resident of Hancock St., in Rumford. Barbara was born in Rumford, on July 12, 1933, and was the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Schwengsbier) Peters. She graduated in Rumford from Stephens High School in the class of 1951. She also graduated from Worcester School of Airline Training (Business School) in Worcester, Mass., in 1953. For nine months Barbara worked on Madison Avenue, N.Y., for British Overseas Airlines in the sales department. She also worked at Ethel Paper Company in the Secretary Field and at L.L. Bean retiring after 17 years of services as a customer service representative. She was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius St. John Church and was also a member of St. Timothy Circle #504, Daughters of Isabella. Barbara was married in Rumford, on Nov. 3, 1956, to Lynden E. Clarke Sr., who died in South Paris on June 13, 2009. She is survived by three sons, Lynden E. Clarke Jr. and Gregory Clarke of Rumford and Jeffrey Clarke and wife Cindy of Canaan; grandchildren, Lynden III, Deanna and Patrick of North Carolina, Jasmine Clarke of Auburn, Peter, Scott and Cody Clarke of Canaan; great-grandchildren Addison Clarke and Mackenzie Hill. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at the Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius St. John Church, Rumford. Interment in the spring will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Friends and family are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral home, Rumford, on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. Those who desire may contribute to St. Timothy Circle #504, Daughters of Isabella, Rumford, in her memory.
