Obituary: Lafourche Daily Comet (Thibodaux, LA), Thursday, 8 February 1940: Thibodaux was shocked yesterday to learn that Alphonse Pitre had died suddenly at his home, across Bayou Lafourche, a short distance below Thibodaux. His age was 69 years. His funeral is to be held today (Thursday) at 2 P.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic church, where he was a regular attendant practically every Sunday in the year. Up to a year or so ago he was always accompanied by his wife, but she became ill and passed away. For a number of years the couple were the caretakers of Mrs. Andrew Price's home on Acadia plantation, but a few years ago they moved into Thibodaux and resided for several years with the late Mrs. James Briggs. After Mrs. B's death, the couple bought a home across Bayou Lafourche and there they both lived until claimed by death. They were quiet, unassuming citizens, always willing to render assistance wherever they could. May they be rewarded by happiness in the world beyond.
Notes for Olympe Martin:
