Obituary:  1 August 1966 - L'Ardoise - Funeral services will be held here today for Mrs. Annie Peters, 87, widow of Joseph Peters.  Requiem high mass will be at Guardian Angel church at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will be in the parish cemetery.  Born in L'Ardoise, she lived in Sydney and the last 13 years with a daughter, Mrs. Herb Lapholder.  Surviving are three sons. Thomas, L'Ardoise; Alex and John, Sydney; seven daughters, Mrs. Cecil Smith, and Alvina, Halifax; Mrs, Constance Samson, Hamilton; Mrs. Fabian Briand, L'Ardoise; Mrs. Lapholder and Mrs. Hubert Petitpas, Sydney.  The body is at the Fabian Briand residence, L'Ardoise.

Marie Alma Peters:  23 August 1993:  Mary Alma Briand (nee Martell), 85, L'Ardoise, Richmond County, died August 20, 1993.  Born in L'Ardoise she was a daughter of the late Alex and Annie Martell Peters.  She is survived by her husband Fabian; four sisters, Philomena (Mrs. Hubert Pettipas), Sydney; Eva Briand, L'Ardoise; Mary Samson, Elizabeth Lapolder, both of Halifax.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Ann, Alvina; two brothers, Thomas, Alexander.  Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, L'Ardoise.  Donations may be made to Nova Scotia Lung Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.  Arrangements under the direction of C.H. Eva May Peters:  Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes Ltd. (photo) Eva Mae Briand 1919-2018  (Eva Mae Briand May 18, 1919 L’Ardoise/Bedford, NS) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Eva Mae, on Saturday 23 June 2018, at the age of 99 years.  Mom died peacefully surrounded by her children at Ivany Place, Bedford, NS.  She was the last surviving member of her family.  Mom had a great love of family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  For many years she baked goodies in her kitchen, with passion and love, where both Mom and Dad raised their family in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton.  Mom was also a great knitter and could knit a pair of mitts or socks, with her eyes closed, for everyone and anyone that needed a pair or two.  Mom had great faith and gave people hope with her many prayers and devotion.  Mom was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Alexander and Annie (Martell) Pitre, her brothers and sisters: Judith, Phyllis, Emma, Elizabeth, Annie Jane, Mary, Alvina, Thomas and Alexander.  Also predeceased by her loving husband, Sammy (Simon) who passed away in 1975.  Mom will be sadly missed by her children: Eugene (Frances) Beaverbank, Alex Bedford, David (Geraldine) Carleton Place, Ont., Doris Vidakovic (widowed) Burlington, Ont., Arthur (Janis) L’Ardoise, Liz MacSween (Sandy) Bedford, Hector Beaverbank, Donna Thorne (Mark) Halifax, Jacqueline Briand (Mel Lucas) Lucasville, Blair (Sheryl) Bedford, Monique Burke (Tommy) Beamsville, Ont.  Mom will also be fondly missed by her grandchildren: Christopher Briand, Julie Briand-Sleigh, Steven Briand, David Briand, Deninne Briand, David Vidakovic, Vanessa Cordeiro, Matthew MacSween, Danielle Ceschi, Jane Christensen, Thomas Burke, Simon Burke, along with her 17 great-grandchildren and her many special nieces and nephews.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s, NS.  Mom will be resting in Holy Guardian Angels Visitation Chapel with visitation on Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Funeral mass will follow a 1 p.m. from Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, L’Ardoise.  Burial in the parish cemetery.  Family flowers only please.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Special thanks to the staff of Lighthouse Point and Periwinkle Cove for all your amazing care.

Joseph Alexander Peters:  15 May 1986 - Joseph Alexander Peters, 29 Atlantic Street, Sydney died Thursday, May 15 at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney.  Born in L'Ardoise, Richmond County, he was the son of the late Joseph Alexander and Anna Martell Peters.  He was employed as carpenter at Sydney Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1974.  He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12.  Mr. Peters was a member of St. Josephs Parish and was an active member on several parish committees.  He is survived by his wife the former Josephine Gillis; four daughters, Anne Marie (Mrs. John G. MacDonald) Dutch Brook; Alvina, Labrador, Linda and Delores both at home; six sisters; Emma (Mrs. Fabian Briand) and Mrs. Eva Briand both of L'Ardoise, Mrs. Mary Samson and Alvina (Mrs. Harvey Hendsbee) both of Halifax, Mrs. Elizabeth Lapolder and Phyllis (Mrs. Hubert Pettipas) both of Sydney and four grandchildren.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers; Thomas Peters and John McPhee and one sister Anna.  The body will rest at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel today after 7 p.m.  The funeral mass will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from St. Josephs Church with Reverend Norman MacPhee officiating.  Interment will be made in Resurrection Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
